What we're looking forward to in 2022 and beyond: 7 phones we can't wait to see

New smartphones include foldable and flagship:

Phones have had a great year so far in 2022. Samsung, for example, has launched the Galaxy S22 range, which includes a radically different Galaxy S22 Ultra, and Apple released an iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max with no notch

It's getting close to the end of the year, which may cause a shortage of major launches, but we expect things to pick up again in the first quarter of 2023.

Our list below includes all the most anticipated upcoming handsets of 2022, as well as those to come in 2023. There is a good chance that these phones will be great, or they will be interesting, unusual, or innovative at the very least.

Samsung Galaxy S23:

In 2023, we expect Samsung to introduce four new flagship devices - the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, Galaxy S23 Ultra - early in the year.

It appears that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will have a 200MP camera, as well as a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset worldwide instead of an Exynos chip in certain regions.

Until the launch, there hasn't been much else in the way of rumors, but you can expect them to ramp up as the date draws closer.

Google Pixel 8:

Although Google's Pixel 7 launched just eight months ago, we're already excited to see what the Pixel 8 has in store for us.

It's unclear what this phone will bring, but we expect it to have a class-leading camera and generally strong software. It will likely use a Tensor 3 chipset and support satellite communications.

The closer we get to the phone's launch, the more leaks and rumors will surface. Stay tuned for more information.

Google Pixel Fold:

In recent months, we've heard that Google's Pixel Fold phone might arrive late in 2022. We've been hearing about it for years. In any case, it seems more likely that a launch will occur in 2023.

Google Pixel Fold is rumored to come with a 7.6-inch foldable OLED screen, a 5.8-inch cover display, and the same Tensor chipset as the Pixel 6.

The facts about this phone are still sketchy for now, but it's worth keeping an eye on because it may turn out to be one of the few non-Samsung foldable phones that's worth getting excited about.

iPhone 15 Ultra:

We are tremendously excited about the iPhone 15 line, but we are most curious about the iPhone 15 Ultra.

Possibly more powerful than the iPhone 15 Pro, this phone would focus on battery life and cost a lot of money, replacing the iPhone 15 Pro Max, according to rumors.

You might want to save up for this phone since it won't be available until September 2023.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5:

In August 2023, Samsung will launch its next foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but it will take some time to arrive.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 also hasn't been officially announced yet, but an early leak points to the device using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and having similar cameras.

There is at least one thing you can expect: a big foldable screen that can be used as a tablet, as well as a similarly high price tag.

Sony Xperia I V:

In addition to having a continuous optical zoom camera, the Sony Xperia I IV was one of the most interesting phones of 2022. The feature makes Sony's flagship stand out from the crowd, and you won't find it on other brands.

Xperia 1 V is yet to be announced, but we expect it to feature similarly unusual cameras, as well as an excellent screen and flagship power - along with some innovative surprises. In the middle of 2023, you should be able to see it.

Nokia 10:

The Nokia 10 has been rumored for so long that its name has changed several times since it first began being rumored - initially, it was planned to launch as the Nokia 9.1, but as time passed, it became Nokia 9.2, 9.3, and then Nokia 10. Considering Nokia's new naming scheme for its phones, it could even land as the Nokia X60.

There have been numerous rumors about when this phone would launch, but none of them have come to pass.

However, it could be worth it. Rumors suggest that it could feature an in-screen selfie camera, sapphire glass display, Penta-lens camera, 108-megapixel or 200-megapixel main sensor, 6,000mAh battery, 144Hz refresh rate, and top-end Snapdragon chipset. In other words, if it ever arrives, this could be a very premium phone.

Huawei Mate 50 Pro – 17 November:

You can pre-order the Huawei Mate 50 Pro now, which will go on sale in the UK on 17 November. Huawei initially launched the phone in China but has confirmed that it will enter the UK market on 17 November.

In addition to the 50-megapixel main camera, which is capable of handling a variety of lighting conditions, there's also a variable aperture that will let you adjust the aperture to match the lighting.

Satellite connectivity takes the edge off, at least for emergency communications, as it is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, though it is a 4G version of that chip.

Vivo X90 – Q4 2022:

There's no doubt that we'll see Vivo's new flagship phones before the year's out since the company has already begun teasing its camera capabilities.

There will likely be the X90, X90 Pro, and X90 Pro+ cameras, as well as a new imaging sensor (potentially another 1-inch model) and coprocessor. Battery size has been disclosed in certification, and leakers claim to be able to see Qualcomm's latest chips.

Redmi Note 12 – Q4 2022:

The Note 12 series has already been revealed in China by Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi. The UK release may take longer than usual - there's a chance we won't see the phones until next year.

Even though they have exciting features like 200Mp cameras and ludicrously fast charging of 210W, these devices are expected to cost less than £500 whenever they are released.

Huawei Nova 10 – Q4 2022:

Soon, Huawei will launch two new mid-range devices in the UK and Europe - the Nova 10 and Nova 10 Pro.

In addition to the 60Mp selfie camera sensor, each model has a 2x zoom telephoto as well, which makes for super high-resolution and ultrawide images.

There is the same triple rear camera on both phones, and you can choose from a 66W charger on the 10 or a 100W charger on the Pro as well as a larger 4500mAh battery on the 10.

There is still a lot of app support to be done, as both are Huawei phones.

OnePlus Nord 3 – Q4 2022:

OnePlus' next mid-range smartphone is expected to be equipped with a 150W charger that can charge the phone fully in 15 minutes, as well as the new Dimensity 8100 chipset and 6.7-inch 120Hz display.

In terms of the camera specs, they will remain the same, with a 50Mp IMX766 main camera and a 2Mp macro and 8Mp ultrawide cameras.

Oppo flip foldable – Q4 2022:

After Oppo's book-style Find N, we're eager to see its second foldable, rumored to follow the Z Flip's clamshell format, expected to launch in Europe and the UK.

Specs have yet to be concretely confirmed, but it is likely to use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, so specifications shouldn't be compromised.
